How privacy works on Sojourn

What's private

• Your journal is private. No other member can read it.
• Your Faith Companion conversations are private. They are never shown in the community and never used as research.
• A journal entry is only ever sent to Faith Companion when you explicitly choose to share it, one entry at a time.
• Your email and account details are never shown to other members; only your display name is.

What's public

• Comments and replies you post under your display name are visible to other members.
• Research-derived discussions come from Sojourn's research process, anonymized and never attributed to a real person's name.
• Likes are visible as counts, not as who liked what.

Faith Companion is AI, powered by Anthropic

Faith Companion is built on Claude, a commercial AI model made by Anthropic. When you send a message, it is sent to Anthropic's API to generate a reply. Faith Companion is not a pastor, therapist, doctor, lawyer, or emergency service, and it cannot monitor you or intervene in a crisis. If you are ever in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services.

Being honest about limits

We do not claim your data is invisible to everyone, everywhere; that would not be true of any online service. Your private data is stored in our database, and our infrastructure providers (including our hosting and database providers, and Anthropic for Faith Companion messages) process it on our behalf to run the app. What we do promise is this: it is never shown to other members, never published to the community, and never used to feed our research system.

Your controls

• Delete any journal entry or comment at any time.
• Delete your entire account from Settings. This permanently removes your comments, likes, journal entries, and Faith Companion conversations.
